Theme: Seafarer Fashion
Seafarer fashion is clothing inspired by sailors, fisherman, lighthouse keepers, & explorers from the harshness of life at sea. Historically, seafaring fashion is practical, warm, and hard-wearing. Items may include wool sweaters & caps, stripped Breton shirts, peacoats, fur coats, duffle coats, rollnecks, turtlenecks, overalls, and brightly colored rubberised boots, waders & oil-skin parkas. Props may include lanterns, vintage life preservers, sou'westers, sailor pipes, diver watches, compasses, vintage scuba gear, ship rope, wool scarves, ect. For vintage inspiration, view Frank Hurley's photos of Shackleton's epic misadventure or watch The Lighthouse. For modern inspiration, watch Life Aquatic, read A Perfect Storm, or check out Seattle tugboat captain Calvin Grenkavich's incredible photos HERE. Please remember: we celebrate diversity, body positivity, self-expression and creativity. Incorporate your own unique style into your look, let us know if you have any questions, and don't be afraid to get weird.
Models:
Please arrive dressed in your unique interpretation of the theme and be ready to shoot. Our favorite vintage shop in Washington, Downtown Tacoma's D. Haberdashery, will have a curated collection of "seafaring fashion" wardrobe & accessory items on location for models to incorporate into their look. Models are welcome to visit their shop from now until the slam to help them curate their collection (optional). D. Haberdashery be giving away a prize to the model who gets most creative with their items. Seattle's Kristen Ray will be offering models micro session hairstyling during arrivals, first-come-first serve. Arrivals begin at 2pm. We'll have a private space designated for models at the shipyard for changing and model's belongings. Please bring hangers for any extra items. Check in, explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, browse wardrobe, and meet other creatives before introductions begin at 3pm. Please consider November weather and be prepared to work with many different photographers in quick 10 minute sessions.

Photographers:
We appreciate it when photographers & videographers dress in sync with the vibe and rock the theme, but they aren't required to. Photographers should wear comfortable shoes and arrive with their camera ready to shoot. Please try to arrive by 2:30pm, in time for lighting & gear demos. After checking in, browse Tamron's lenses and Nanlite's lighting, all available to borrow on location. Kenmore Camera will be available to assist with gear. Prizes will be given away at the end to the participants who get most creative and engaging with Fujifilm, Nanlite and Tamron gear (just for fun, slams are not competitions). Explore the space for inspiring portrait locations, take a few test shots and chat with fellow creatives. Introductions start at 3pm. We begin each slam by pairing everyone up. Please be prepared to work with many different models in quick 10 minute sessions. Personal lighting and film photography are welcome but please tread lightly and check in with us before flying a drone. Photography assistants are required to purchase a general ticket.
